Crunch Time

You guys! Christmas is, like, a week away! Seriously!

How did this happen?!?!

Any chance we can all get together and agree to push it back for a couple of weeks? I know that would really help me out, right about now...

Thanks.

PS: Can't you feel the tension in these pictures? Rudy Cat (as Brigid calls him, anyway...he used to be plain old Rudy, but he's been renamed by the two-year old...and it's kind of ridiculously adorable) really, really, REALLY wanted to get his hands (paws) on that darn necklace I was wearing. I'm lucky there are no holes in my sweater after this attempt.

Evening Out

My sister-in-law called me on Saturday to see if I wanted to go to a bar that night to get dinner and drinks like a 'grown-up', instead of sitting around my house drinking wine, which is what we had done the night before.

And since heading out on such a grown-up outing would obviously call for me to wear the giant flower ring that I've had for months but seldom bring out of the jewelry box, I was all for it.

And if you try to tell me there's more to being an adult than pretty jewelry, I will stick my fingers in my ear and hum to myself until you go away. Unless that something more involves the ability to eat chocolate for breakfast...

Then we can still be friends.

Star of the Show

We are getting family pictures taken this weekend, and the only advice we received from our photographer on clothing choices was 'no white'. Which, while helpful in the slightest of ways, was not really helpful at all.

Obviously, I want us all to match. And even more obviously, I don't want us all to match too closely. And even though my husband got a new sweater for the occasion, I'd rather not shop for these pictures if I don't have to. We're shooting for a purple/black/gray color scheme, based around the most ridiculously adorable striped sweater dress that my daughter owns and a pair of gray motorcycle boots that my sister-in-law bought her for her birthday, and I have to scour my closet tonight for options of my own. Should be a good time. Or not.

Tomorrow's lunch break may end up being a frantic trip to the mall to find something that will work. Nothing like waiting until the last minute, I guess.

Although, really, what I end up wearing probably won't matter in the end. I'm just going to be upstaged by a two-year old, anyway...

eShakti Skirts: A Product Review

When the lovely people at eShakti contacted me a couple of weeks ago to see if I had any interest in doing a product review for them, I jumped at the chance. I'd first heard of the company through Heather and Kayla, and after seeing those fabulous ladies model their dresses from the eShakti line, I'd started a bit of a wishlist of my own involving items from the online store.

If you haven't visited the site before, eShakti offers a wide range of clothing in both standard and custom sizes, and for those of us who don't have a standard body type, having the option of customizing any clothing order for a pretty reasonable upcharge isn't a bad thing at all.

I finally decided on the embellished florals flared skirt for review purposes because, although the idea of a custom dress does intrigue me, I am just a skirt kind of girl. Which is probably pretty obvious if you've followed me at all, for any length of time. I don't seem to wear much else, these days...

I ordered the skirt in my usual size 6, and after receiving it within a week of placing the order, I couldn't wait to try it on. It fit exactly at my natural waist, which is maybe a little higher than I'd normally wear a skirt since my short stature predictably includes a short torso (and a lower waistband seems to lengthen that shortness just a bit), but I kind of loved how it looked with this silhouette. It lends itself to a more classic feel with the high-waisted look, I think, which is what I was hoping for when I saw the flare online. Or, as one lady in the office put it when she saw me, 'I just love that skirt. It reminds me of the skirts I wore when I was younger...'.

Since she seemed to mean it as a compliment, and that's the look I actually wanted anyway, I'm going to go ahead and assume that this is a good thing in this case.

Anyway, while I was mostly pleased with this order, I was a little annoyed with the zipper. It seems a little flimsy to me, in that I feel like I need to be extra cautious when taking the skirt on and off. As someone who changes clothes at least seven times before settling on what I want to wear for the day, this could prove to be a problem in the middle of the morning rush, but it's something I can work with when I love the other aspects of the item. I also generally prefer a hook closure at the top of my zippers, which this skirt doesn't have, but I can always add one of my own with a few stitches if it turns into too much of a problem (and it wasn't at all the one time I've worn the skirt so far).

There are several other skirts from the line that I'd like to add to my wardrobe at some point, including the lace and tulle skirt and the floral embellished patch pocket skirt in red, and I definitely think I'll have to give the custom size option a try the next time I order from the site.

When the options for change include where on your waist you'd like to wear the item, as well as where on the leg you'd like it to hit, it's almost like they're speaking directly to the vertically challenged people like myself, and that's just too good to pass by...

You could say I'm easily impressed...

Angela over at Love at First Shoe has been talking about the store Charming Charlie for months now, and the amazing accessories she always picks up from the place made me a little sad, because I thought it was a local store, for some reason.

So, imagine my (probably inappropriately excessive, since we're just talking about jewelry here, but that's who I am, I guess...) joy when my mother-in-law told me about this great shop relatively near her house that I just had to visit, because the amount of accessories housed in one place was something I'd enjoy.

She knows me so well.

I only spent about twenty minutes in the store, while we were waiting for a table to open up at a nearby restaurant, and I still managed to walk out with three necklaces, a bracelet, and a pair of earrings. Not bad for an abbreviated day's work. Imagine the damage I could do if I spent some real time in the place?

I am literally (said in your best Rob-Lowe-on-Parks-and-Rec voice, naturally) giddy with anticipation...

All in...

While Steve and I were flying to Omaha this past weekend, we saw an older lady boarding the plane in Atlanta who had dyed the tips of her gray hair pink, for, I assume, breast cancer awareness.

And that, my friends, is commitment to the cause.

I wanted to high-five her and ask to take a picture, but I'm a complete chicken when it comes to approaching strangers, so I stuck with a mental fist bump and called it a day. I still wish I had a picture, though...

Mayhem

So, last week, the Missoni for Target craziness happened. And while there was definitely some cute stuff in the collection that I wanted to pick up, I did not want to brave the stores at the crack of dawn to get any of it. So I waited until my lunch break to make my visit, and basically EVERYTHING was gone, except for the shoes, and most of the sleepwear.

Luckily, it was a pair of shoes that I was after, so it all worked out in my favor

(Oh, also, there was a dress that I wanted, and I didn't think that was going to happen, but I managed to be standing at the rack (possibly on purpose) as a woman (that I had maybe been slightly cart stalking around the store) returned one in my size. So, well done me, I guess?)

Vanity...

Do you like how my cats have all of a sudden taken on a starring role in my daily pictures? I just can't keep them out of the shot for some reason.

They're such camera hogs.

(Honestly, I'm really not sure how I've managed to keep my pictures as animal free as I have along the way. With two cats, two dogs, and a toddler running around, there is always something underfoot. And unfortunately, they're all cuter than I am. Especially the toddler.

Which is why they're not allowed to play along, obviously.

Center of attention...hey-oh!)

Getting Old

I'm going to share a secret with you all today...I am getting old.

Now, don't get me wrong, I don't really think 31 is that old...on other people, anyway. On me, though?

It's ancient!

Case in point: This past weekend, I spent all of Sunday cleaning the house. Laundry, vacuuming, dusting, dishes, toilet cleaning, shower scouring, carpet steaming, sorting through at least a month of mail...I went crazy.

(Steve will tell you that I went on a cleaning binge because I couldn't stand the thought of my neighbors coming over to check on the cats while we're gone, only to have them openly judge me for the mess I left behind, but I maintain it was because the layer of dust in our house was reaching Animal Hoarder levels. It's what happens when you only really clean once a month...

And besides, it's always nice to come back from vacation to a moderately clean house, in my opinion. So there.)

Anyway, in my younger days, a day of deep cleaning was nothing that my body couldn't handle. But, as I was lying in bed Sunday night, trying to figure out why exactly my hip was hurting, I realized that a day of deep cleaning was now seen by my poor old self as several hours of hard exercising. Which is a sad comment of the state of my fitness, I guess...

Unless all of my complaining finally convinces Steve that we need to bring in the cleaning service I want to hire, that is!

Here's hoping...
